This is Not Good | New Postmark Rules Could Delay Mailed Tax Payments, Dodge County Treasurer Warns

"...A recent U.S. Postal Service rule change means that mail sent more than 50 miles from a regional processing center—like Milwaukee or Minneapolis—won’t be postmarked when it’s dropped off. Instead, it’ll be stamped a day or two later when it reaches the processing facility. That delay could cause problems for taxpayers because Wisconsin law says mailed tax payments are considered on time only if the envelope is postmarked on or before the due date. Treasurer Kris Keith says the safest way to avoid late fees is simple: bring your envelope to the counter and ask for a hand-stamped postmark. ..."

"...the e-commerce giant is in discussions with the U.S. Postal Service about its future relationship and considering its options before its current contract expires next year. Safest way to mail a check, according to U.S. Postal Service

"Some pens are better than others if you're writing a check that will be mailed. ...check washing scams involve changing the payee names and often the dollar amounts on checks and fraudulently depositing them. Occasionally, the checks are stolen from mailboxes and washed in chemicals to remove the ink...steps individuals can take as well, including one as simple as using a gel pen to fill out checks they plan to mail.

Gel pens are harder for fraudsters to change because of the way the ink is absorbed into the paper, he said."

Senators aim to reduce taxpayer subsidized political junk mail, ending key federal subsidy to Republican and Democratic Party

Senators aim to reduce pesky political junk mail, ending key federal subsidy to Republican and Democratic Party

"Currently, national and state committees for the major political parties can get the same 40-60% discount rate nonprofits enjoy for mailers sent through the US Postal Service. Third parties don’t get the perk.

New legislation, dubbed the Ending Subsidies for Political Junk Mail Act, which was proposed by Sens. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.), would force the GOP and Democratic party committees to pay the normal rate...“No more welfare for Washington consultants,” Ernst told The Post. “If the American people must pay full price to send a Christmas card that their families actually want, then political parties should have to pay full price to send junk mail that nobody wants.”..."
