What USPS says about damaged West Seattle mailboxes

"...Last week we reported on damage to the outdoor mailboxes at both West Seattle Post Offices – The Junction here, Westwood Village here. At week’s end we sent followup inquiries to the USPS’s regional media liaison Janella Herron, who replied today. She wouldn’t comment on whether either or both of the incidents involved theft or just vandalism, saying only that “Damage to both boxes (was) outside of retail hours.” She said the incidents had been referred to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. As for a timeline for replacement or repair, “Repair or replacement of these out-of-service collection boxes is based on availability of replacement parts / products and I am unable to provide a timeline.” ..."

"...Carlos Sanchez-Guzman pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence and theft of mail this week. Documents filed in Warren County Common Pleas Court on Thursday show he was sentenced to 180 days for each count to be served concurrently. He received credit for 86 days, so he’ll spend 94 days in jail. ...alongside Yahir Nazario Reyes and Joshua Hernandez. ...the suspects allegedly used “sticky mouse traps” and oil to steal the mail."

Theft suspect found with 700 pounds of stolen mail after ABC13 report, DA's office says

Former Gettysburg Times publisher pleads guilty to stealing packages, selling them online

"...The former publisher of the Gettysburg Times pleaded guilty to stealing packages from the Gettysburg post office to sell online, according to a news release and court documents. ...Harry Hartman, 54, of Garnet Valley in Delaware County, the Times' former publisher, had been formally charged June 5 with a felony charge of mail theft. ...complaints that packages marked as “delivered” or “out for delivery” had not been received."

Philly postal workers charged with stealing $80 million in U.S. Treasury checks

"...Two former U.S. Postal Service employees who worked at the USPS Philadelphia Processing and Distribution Center were charged with stealing more than $80 million in U.S. Treasury checks, the Department of Justice said on Wednesday.

According to an indictment, Tauheed Tucker, 23, and Saahir Irby, 27, stole thousands of envelopes containing U.S. Treasury checks while working as USPS mail processing clerks.

Two other men, Cory Scott, 25, of Ardmore and Alexander Telewoda, 25, of Clifton Heights were also charged with conspiracy to steal government funds, theft of government funds and mail theft. ..."

"...A United States postal worker is facing multiple theft charges, including opening mail that didn’t belong to her, after police said she was caught stealing at a Buc-ee’s in Leeds, Alabama.

While in custody for shoplifting at the store, police searched 39-year-old Amber Beard’s purse and car and found stolen merchandise, a multitude of checks, credit and debit cards, and Alabama drivers’ licenses not belonging to her, as well as U.S. mail addressed to several people in the Birmingham area.

While in custody, Beard told officers she works for USPS. ..."

Leeds, Alabama | USPS mail carrier arrested for shoplifting at Buc-ee’s

Woman fed up with stolen mail sends apple AirTag to herself to catch thief

"...SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) — A Southern California woman fed up with her packages getting stolen out of her post office box sent an Apple AirTag to the address and cleverly tracked down the suspected thief, police said.

The woman had had several items stolen from her mailbox at the Los Alamos Post Office already when she thought of the idea, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

Franklin police say checks are being stolen from blue mailboxes throughout town

Missouri | Cape Girardeau postal worker convicted of stealing mail

"...After a trial lasting less than two days, 33-year-old Robert Gafford of Jackson was found guilty of one count of delaying or destroying mail and one count of embezzlement of mail.

According to a release from the Office of the United States Attorney Eastern District of Missouri, Gafford worked out of the Cape Girardeau Post Office annex at the time and was responsible for delivering mail on a rural route in or near Scott City.
