Air cargo contractor reimburses Postal Service for fraudulent billing

"...Regional airline hid nonperformance by falsifying barcode scans of mail bins...Air Cargo Carriers LLC, a turboprop freighter operator, paid the government more than $350,000 to settle charges that it manipulated shipping data to avoid late-delivery penalties under a U.S. Postal Service contract to transport mail in the Caribbean, FreightWaves has learned. ...identified a large number of containers that shared an exact two-hour difference between the load and delivery scan between 2018 and 2021. Metadata on bin identification tags showed that scans were not performed by a handheld scanner. Information, instead, was generated by an internal tracking system. Investigators determined that delivery information was inaccurate because the time and date was actually captured during loading."

“Of all the dirty tricks”: USPS quietly changed what a postmark means. Voting advocates are alarmed

"...The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) quietly changed what it means for mail to be “postmarked,” a move that could make letters, ballots, and time-sensitive paperwork appear late, even if they were dropped off on time. ...The USPS officially published the rule change on Nov. 24, 2025, and it went into effect on Dec. 24. Previously, as long as you put a properly addressed and stamped letter into your mailbox before pickup, the post office would mark the date of receipt as that day. The new rule states that the postmark can be applied later, such as at the processing facility."
