“Of all the dirty tricks”: USPS quietly changed what a postmark means. Voting advocates are alarmed

"...The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) quietly changed what it means for mail to be “postmarked,” a move that could make letters, ballots, and time-sensitive paperwork appear late, even if they were dropped off on time. ...The USPS officially published the rule change on Nov. 24, 2025, and it went into effect on Dec. 24. Previously, as long as you put a properly addressed and stamped letter into your mailbox before pickup, the post office would mark the date of receipt as that day. The new rule states that the postmark can be applied later, such as at the processing facility."

USPS Changes Begin This Week: How Mail Could Be Affected

USPS, Milwaukee airport give contradictory reports about mail delivery at the airport during RNC

"...MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport and the United States Postal Service are giving contradictory information over mail delivery to the airport during the Republican National Convention. According to a statement from the airport's director, the USPS will not deliver mail to Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport during the Republican National Convention. However, a local USPS spokesperson told 12 News late Friday that the USPS will continue delivering mail to the airport during the RNC. The airport learned about a USPS decision to not deliver mail this week..."

US Postal Service downgrades South Dakota mail operations

"...SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The U.S. Postal Service has finalized its plan to downgrade the downtown Sioux Falls post office to a local processing center, shifting non-local mail operations to a facility in Omaha, Nebraska. The reorganization, first introduced in January, has sparked concerns about slower mail delivery to rural communities because letters and packages formerly processed and sent from Sioux Falls will be routed through Omaha, 160 miles away. ..."
