Books on Amazon | Mailman: My Wild Ride Delivering the Mail in Appalachia and Finally Finding Home

Amazon | Mailman: My Wild Ride Delivering the Mail in Appalachia and Finally Finding Home "...An exuberant, hilarious, and profound memoir by a mailman in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, who found that working for the post office saved his life, taught him who he was, gave him purpose, and educated him deeply about a country he loves but had lost touch with.

Steve Grant was laid off in March of 2020. He was fifty and had cancer, so he needed health insurance, fast. Which is how he found himself a rural letter carrier in Appalachia, back in his old hometown.

And yet, slowly, surrounded by a ragtag but devoted band of letter carriers..."

"...Trump has previously suggested a takeover of the Postal Service by the Commerce Department, and said the concept of privatizing the agency was “not the worst idea” he’s heard. The USPS is an independent agency of the government; critics have warned that a challenge to that independence — particularly privatization — would risk letter carriers’ mission to deliver the mail to every American. A private USPS could make rural delivery more expensive or non-existent, they warn. ..."

APWU | Update: CDL Medical Certification Integration

"...The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) adopted a rule change in 2015, along with many other components of this rule change, was the requirement that the Medical Examiner who performs a Commercial Driver Certification physical will electronically notify the commercial operator's state driver license agency. There will no longer be a need to provide the medical examiner certificates to the state driver's license agency. When getting a CDL physical, the driver should ask for a copy to carry with them for the first few weeks. *USPS has not notified the union or our members of these mandatory changes. ..."
