Obama Admin Halts Plans To Alter US Postal Workers' Benefits

"... The Obama administration initially wanted postal workers to pay 27% of their health insurance costs, up from the current level of 17%. The plan also called for postal employees to begin paying 67% of their life insurance premiums. Both of these changes would have brought postal worker benefits in line with benefits paid to workers at executive branch agencies. To do this, however, the administration would have needed to modify federal law passed in the early 1970s that extends labor contract bargaining rights to Postal Service workers, a privilege not held by other federal employees. ..."

Postal workers must not be made the scapegoat for losing political campaigns

"...Postal workers are honest, public servants who have no motive for delaying mail -- and would never risk their jobs by doing this. We are proud to protect the sanctity of the mail and serve the American public with every piece every day. I will point out to you that in many nation surveys the American public has voted that the Postal Service is the most trusted federal agency of all. Of that we are very proud.

Postal workers must not be made the scapegoat for losing political campaigns. We are not thieves but American citizens who are proud of their service every day...."

Postal Workers - No Time To Stroke Cats

"...Most postal workers are fiercely proud of the job they do and see it very much as a community role, way and above the concept of putting letters through letterboxes. This view would seem to be supported by Royal Mail itself which runs an annual competition to find postal workers that have demonstrated a commitment way and beyond the requirements of the job. In that respect, postal workers do stand out against employees in many other service industries, even if not entirely unique. Postal workers, at least for the moment, see the new working ethos as akin to working like robots, particularly with timed walks, but they weather the changes in the hope that it will at least secure more jobs. ..."
