3 N.J. men tried to deposit checks they stole from the U.S mail, feds say

"...Three men are facing federal charges in an alleged scheme to steal checks from U.S. mail, alter them and try to deposit them into bank accounts.

Jeffrey Bennett, 31, of Irvington and Rahway; Aquil Hubbard, 31, of Newark and Middlesex; and Tashon Ragan, 26, of Union have been charged with conspiracy to commit bank fraud, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey. ..."

Mail-in election ballots stolen in at least 2 N.J. towns

"...Mail-in election ballots that were stolen last month in at least two towns in Middlesex County have been replaced and officials said they will ensure that no ballot is counted twice.

The thefts occurred last month in Metuchen, Woodbridge and possibly other municipalities, according to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and local officials. ..."

New Jersey USPS manager admits to spending over $50,000 on company credit cards

"Austin Mahan, 44, of Cape May Court House pleaded guilty before a U.S. district judge on Monday. ...Prosecutors say he used postal service credit cards to make personal purchases including a vacuum, gift cards, and tools.

"Usually, they're very nice here. For him to be stealing, that's taking trust from us," said Antoinette Lavook of Atlantic City.

Regulars at the Atlantic City post office were upset..."

New Jersy residents have been reporting check theft for two years. Finally, USPS makes arrests

"...Teaneck residents have taken a big gamble when dropping a check in the mail. Beginning in early 2020, more than 250 stolen checks and incidents of mail fraud were reported to Teaneck police. Many victims said someone had altered a check they'd placed in a mailbox ..."
