Maine should be aware of postal service’s 'move' plans

"...for consideration to move some mail processing operations from Eastern Maine P&DC to Southern Maine P&DC. This would cause even further delays in mail delivery service to all Maine businesses and residents in eastern and northern Maine. This would only be a temporary move in operations until the rest of the “Delivering for America” plan is implemented. Once the construction of the Regional Processing & Distribution Center in Massachusetts is completed, then all of mail in Maine will be sent to Massachusetts to be processed. This includes all local mail. ..."

USPS to consolidate 18 facilities, increasing concerns over mail delays

"...The 18 mail processing centers that are being consolidated are located throughout the country, including plants in Erie, Pennsylvania; Wausau, Wisconsin; Huntsville, Alabama; Gainesville, Florida; Newburgh, New York; Paducah, Kentucky; and Seattle, according to the American Postal Workers Union, or APWU. The APWU said mail previously directed to those plants will be redirected to other facilities. In a statement to NBC News, the USPS said it is "looking to repurpose" the centers being consolidated..."

Union Calls on USPS to Postpone Consolidations

‘Congress is Killing the Postal Service’

"...little attention has been paid to other drastic measures the USPS is taking that will significantly delay mail and permanently damage the nation’s mail system,” he remarked after the USPS Board of Governors announced it was backing off plans to end delivery of letters and periodicals on Saturdays. Since 2012, the USPS has closed or consolidated 114 mail processing facilities, one third of the nation’s mail processing capacity. The Postal Service has also reduced hours at approximately 6,500 post offices and plans to cut hours at 6,500 more. Reneging on its commitment to lawmakers, communities, customers and postal workers, the agency announced last month that it was accelerating plans to close even more mail processing facilities. The USPS said it will consolidate 71 plants this year that were originally scheduled for possible closure in 2014...."

"...The APWU assailed a “modified” USPS consolidation plan at a hearing before the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) on June 7, and notified the panel that the union will file a complaint seeking to stop the Postal Service from consolidating mail processing facilities and reducing service until after the PRC issues an advisory opinion on the plan...."
