Postal workers in Missoula concerned by possibility of moving sorting to Spokane

"U.S. Post Office workers in Missoula are extremely skeptical of a plan to possibly “modernize” the facility here because it may involve transferring outgoing mail-processing operations currently performed in Missoula to Spokane. ...“If you’re sending something from Missoula to Missoula, it’s gonna get driven to Spokane first... “We do a ton of Veterans Administration medications," he said. "Stuff like that’s gonna suffer. A lot of people rely on their physical Social Security checks. Things like that. A ton of local businesses take advantage of those flat-rate boxes. All their shipping could be delayed for two or more days.”"

Postal union opposes move


"..."We think moving mail processing to Stamford is going to delay delivery," said Michael Dennehy, president of the American Postal Workers Bridgeport local. "The mail will have to come back from Stamford and as a result it will get to the carriers later. In general that means important pieces like checks, cards and gifts will be delivered later."So the union has filed suit in federal court..."
