USPS to temporarily increase prices for 2025 holiday season. Here's what to know

"...Shipping gifts may will cost you more this holiday season. ...The United States Postal Service will temporarily hike prices for some services during the 2025 holiday season.

Starting Sunday, Oct. 5, price increases for Priority Mail Express (PME), Priority Mail (PM), USPS Ground Advantage, and Parcel Select will go into effect. The price change, announced in August, comes as the mailing agency looks to "cover extra handling costs" to ensure a successful holiday season

The higher prices will remain in effect through Jan. 18, 2026..."

USPS proposes temporary rate changes

"...The adjustment is to help cover extra handling costs.

The planned pricing, which was approved by the Postal Service governors on Aug. 8, would affect prices on these commercial and retail domestic competitive parcels: Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail and USPS Ground Advantage. No other products or services would be affected.

Pending favorable review by the Postal Regulatory Commission, the temporary rates would go into effect on Sunday, Oct. 6, and remain in place until Sunday, Jan. 19. ..."
