FERS Social Security Annuity Supplement

With many people taking the USPS Voluntary Early Retirement, many of you may have questions relative to Eligibility for the Retiree Annuity Supplement. Check out this OPM PDF document on the subject.

"...The retiree annuity supplement is a benefit paid until age 62 to certain FERS employees who retire before age 62 and who are entitled to an immediate annuity. The supplement approximates the value of FERS service in a Social Security benefit. The general purpose of the supplement is to provide a level of income before age 62 similar to what the retiree will receive at age 62 as part of a Social Security benefit, if eligible for Social Security at that age...."

FERS Social Security Supplement

Under the Federal Employees Retirement System, what needs to be provided to receive the Social Security supplement for those retiring before age 62? "...meant to mimic the Social Security benefit (based only on your FERS civilian service), it actually is paid as part of the FERS basic retirement benefit from the Office of Personnel Management.
